So unfortunately the city is going to be implementing the new ID fob policy without providing answers to many of the questions or concerns that our community has. However, we want to make sure that all of our fellow dancers know how to register so we can all keep dancing.
- You can always attend at least once as a guest, which is sometimes referred to as a day pass.
- If you are over 18, you can go through the entire registration process at any community center. If you are minor and would like to go through the registration at a community center you will need to bring a parent or guardian.
How do I register if I am 18 or older?
Step 1: Sign up
To register online as an adult, go to play.cabq.gov. On the home page you will se a button for “Create an Account”; click on that button to get to the registration page. This will bring you to a pretty standard registration page. Fill out the appropriate information and click “Save” when you’re done.
Step 2: Get it verified
Once you are registered with the system and would like to attend the dance you will need to show up to any community center to finish the registration. This can be done at the Heights community center prior to the dance. For this step you will need to bring an ID, but we are getting inconsistent information as to exactly what type of ID. We believe at this point an ID with your name and picture will suffice. The community center will verify your ID and will take a photo for your account and issue you a ID fob. At this point you should be able to attend the dance.
Some oddities to the registration
There’s a few caveats to this system. The primary one is that aside from your name, absolutely none of the information is allowed to be duplicated between users. What this means is that if you have a roommate who is also over 18 and has already registered with the system at your address, then you will not be able to register. You have two options at this point: 1) talk to you roommate and have them add you as a new member to their household see Step 1 of the under 18 registration, or 2) just put in fake information as none of the information except your name will actually be verified.
If you are unable to register because some of your information is already on the city’s registration system, you will either 1) have to go through the entire registration process in person at a community center where they will have to sort out any duplication issue, or 2) use fake information as the only information which will be verified is your name.
How do I register if I am under 18?
Step 1: Have your parent/guarding sign up
To register online as a minor you will need a parent or guardian to create an account at play.cabq.gov. On the home page you will see a button for “Create an Account”; click on that button to get to the registration page. This will bring you to a pretty standard registration page. The information in this registration needs to be your parent or guardian’s information. After that is filled out, your parent/guardian needs to hit “Add a New Member” to add an additional member to the household. This is where your information will go.
Step 2: Get it verified
The next step is verification of this account with the community center. Sadly, because we have not been told, nor is there any information on the city’s FAQ regarding the registration of minors, we don’t know if your parent needs to be there. We don’t know if the city will need to take your picture as a minor. Honestly, we just do not know exactly what this verification process entails for you right now. Sorry. When we get answers to the questions, we will let you know.
